THE GBA APPROACH
At the core of our successful Aged Care design are our relationships with clients.
Understanding and listening at the beginning of projects through collaborative briefings and consultations means less changes during construction and better cost control.
Our Aged Care Architecture projects:
Are designed to maximise on the natural light
Create a physical and visual connection to the outdoors
Always seek to enable wayfinding and a sense of whereabouts
Encourage Resident function, participation and wellbeing
Strengthen visitor and community engagement
Maximise operational efficiency and organisation
The GBA Approach is based on 8 key design aims and principles:
CHOICE
A design to deliver choice between privacy and opportunities for social engagement including an appropriate mix of accommodation types.
security and safety
Designating public, semi public and private areas which is especially important when integrating with the wider community through sharing of facilities etc. and now with Coronavirus in mind, an environment that can enable social distancing and infection control.
social opportunity and community facilities
Encouraging visitors and community integrated Facilities will strengthen community connection and, promote social engagement, intergenerational connection, physical activity and generally improve the wellbeing of the residents.
INCLUSIVE DESIGN
Design enabling Environments to reduce the impact of physical limitations, cognitive and sensory impairment.
OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCES
Running costs will exceed the capital costs within a few years of operation – and these costs are continuous. Therefore Life cycle costs are more imported to consider than the initial capital costs.
AESTHETICS
Site specific with appropriate forms and scale. We aim for our projects to be uplifting in appearance yet be to non institutional in appearance.
biophilic design
Physical and visual connection to the outdoor amenity to maximize natural light and ventilation and the associated health benefits.
CARE READY
Accommodation designed to adapt and facilitate the delivery of care and support taking into account future changing needs of residents. Smart technology will become increasingly important in maintaining the independence, safety & security of residents as well as efficiencies of staff.
