Capecare Dunsborough is a new facility in the heart of Dunsbrough Western Australia and is  the first Aged Care Facility for the rapidly growing south west community.  It will comprise of 80 beds for residential care, (in a dementia enabling environment), and 21 Independent Living Apartments.  The ACF has allied health services, a playground, café and landscaped gardens.  The Apartments have a Sky Lounge on the top Floor and new premises for the Dunsborough Country Women’s Association.

Connection to the community was paramount and the Capecare executive team worked closely with members of the community to ensure it’s success.  The project is located within easy walking distance to the town centre, shops, cafes and medical facilities.  The innovative design also encourages human connection by providing spaces for social events that create an appealing and vibrant community hub.  This link ensures residents maintain their relationships and connection with the wider community, enabling them to live well as they age within their neighbourhood they call home, and where they are surrounded by their support networks.

All apartments have an outlook onto peaceful bushland, and the upper levels have ocean views. The Sky Lounge, the rooftop communal area for Independent Living residents, has magnificent views of the Bay.

The build area of land is approximately a third of the land area (1.28ha/3.2acres); with the balance a conservation reserve.  The project worked diligently to ensure that any environmental impact was minimised and planted 2,500 Peppermint trees and 7,500 under-canopy shrubs.

The development team worked closely with local environmental and wildlife care groups to maximise the wellbeing and safe relocation of Western Ringtail Possum and ensured the long term preservation of endangered Fauna.

The facility when fully operational will employ approximately 80 local people and the project came in under budget and is designed to save running costs across the life cycle of the project.
